Affiliate marketing is a unique type of business in that you do not actually make the sales. The sale is made by your sponsor on his website. They will have a tracking system in place to track your click through and sales. The only problem with this is that it is hard to see the actual keywords that are making the sale.

There are several reasons for having a more accurate sales conversion tracking system:

Keyword profit: You need to know which keywords are pulling actual sale. Each keyword is costing you money when a reader clicks on your ad. Therefore it is vital to your success to know which keywords are making sales and which ones are just bringing traffic that is not converting. You can lose a lot of money with keywords that are not bringing in sales.

Bidding accuracy: In order to bid correctly on your keywords you will need to understand the conversions of clicks to sales and how much the sale is actually costing. Knowing which keywords are converting to sales is an important factor in your bidding decisions. It is all about numbers. Basically it is how many clicks are converting to a sale, and how much each sale will cost. For example if each click is costing 5 cents and you are getting a 1% conversion, this means that each sale is costing you $5. You will need to know if your product or service is worth this amount of money.

Sorting out keywords: You can discard keywords that are just bringing traffic with no sales. Keywords that are bringing little or no sales should be discarded. They are just draining money. It does not matter how little it may be, if it is not cost effective then that keyword should be deleted from the campaign.

Valuable testing: Sales conversion tracking is important, in that it allows you to test and tweak each keyword and ad that you have in your campaign. It also allows you to do some valuable testing of your landing pages. You can do split testing and really see which keywords are performing well and bring them up top optimum performance.

As you can see it is vital to the success of your PPC campaigns that you have an accurate affiliate sales conversion system in place. This will ensure that you will not only remain in profit but will be able to increase profits and save money.
